I really like the idea of Aliens vs. Predator, I think it could work as a movie but I feel like there should be some limitations. I originally thought it would be be cool to do a shared universe like Marvel, but now think I like that idea. See, I wrote my own Aliens, Predator, and Aliens vs. Predator fan fictions for fun. But when I was writing Predator stories I once had an idea to write one involving Colonial Marines, but I vetoed it because I felt that Predator should have his own stories instead of doing something involving Aliens. I felt, can’t Predator have anything that isn’t Alien related? It’s like this Alien and Predator meme I saw where the Predator says, “I wish I could quit you.” It might be too much to ask for, but I feel like Aliens, Predator, and Aliens vs. Predator should go their own course, be each standalone stories, but most of all, don’t contradict each other, so it’s not saying that they share the same universe, but saying they “could” share the same universe. Which is somewhat easy because Predator is in modern times and Aliens in the future, but if you do do an AVP story it should be set in the future cause they tried AVP in modern times and they were terrible.
After watching that Power/Rangers short film by the producer of Dredd (one of my favorites) it got me thinking, maybe a Power Rangers reboot could work, if done right and more down-to-Earth. You know, make it more adult, PG-13 adult, not like R-Rated short film that they made. I mean I think it could be done right and it could be fun. I had heard the writers of X-Men First Class are involved, which is good because they redeemed the X-Men franchise after the disasters that were Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine. It got my brain thinking about how I would do one.
What I would do is tell the story of the original characters from the beginning, they’d be martial arts students and they are pretty good at it, their rival would be Tommy, and we all know where he’d go. Maybe they could redo the idea of the Rita, maybe even Zedd who would be rewaken from their prison on the moon. They would invade the planet and we would be helpless to stop them. Our heroes would become a resistance of few, you know, like Red Dawn to fight back. When they meet the robot Alpha who introduces them to Zordon, a former scientist who after dying of cancer hooked his body up to a machine to prolong his life. He discovered a powerful, programable element he found in meteorites that would adapt with any object it touches which he used to create the armor, the weapons, and the Zords, named after himself of course. He would offer them this power to fight the invaders because he believed they are worthy to wield it after watching them try to defend their world. They would become the Power Rangers and fight Zedd and Rita with their weapons and the Zords, but the Zords can only be used unless very necessary cause it uses so much power. Maybe Zedd is searching for another powerful artifact, similar to the Infinity Stones in the Marvel movies that would make him unstoppable.
As for the Green Ranger, we’d save him for the sequel.
But that how I would do it, I’d have to do more research to get it right, it could be fun. Who knows what they got planned, we’ll just have to see if they do it right. I hate to compare it to the Transformers movies, but they did take a child oriented series and made it more adult. I mean the first was good in my opinion.
The net is a buzz with what the next Alien movie will be with Neill Blomkamp at the helm and the return of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, and possibly Michael Biehn as Hicks. it seems that this movie will be a retcon despite the fact that Blomkamp said he’s “Not gonna undo Alien3 and Alien Resurrection”, he seems to have no love for the two movies and talks about how he wants to be a sequel to only Alien and Aliens. Weaver talks about this to be the end of Ripley, considering that she’s not getting any younger, seems that she wishes to close the book on her for one last time. This will probably be Ripley’s last ride, and maybe Hicks too. But if there’s one thing I know about studios is they like making money, and the only way to do that is with sequels. In my opinion, there’s only one way to continue the franchise without Ripley. If this is a retcon, it means that Newt is still alive too, there is no proof that she’ll be included in this story, but she could still be alive, That’s the idea, maybe after this it is time to pass the torch to another character who can carry on the franchise, a new young female star. And I think that person can be Newt. She’s could be the new star and she’s like a surrogate daughter to Ripley. This has been done before in a comic book series written by comic book turn TV producer Mark Verheiden, his comic series starred Newt, grown up, as the lead alongside Hicks, and eventually Ripley in the 3rd and final book. Unfortunately, after the release of Alien3 the books were reprinted with different names, Newt and Hicks became Billie and Wilks, and the SD Perry novelization said that Ripley was a robot. But the point is, Newt could be the new star and carry on the series for a new generation and I think she can be the new Ripley.
That is what I would do and have been preaching for years.
See, I liked the first Alien vs. Predator, despite its overwhelming flaws. Do I think it could’ve been a better film. Yes. I think Anderson should’ve gotten another writer to help him make it a better film.
This is what I would’ve probably done different.
First of all, don’t set it on Earth, apparently some people don’t like that, and especially don’t set it in modern times.
I would’ve set it after Aliens when Lance Henriksen would play an executive of Weyland-Yutani, maybe even the man who designed the Bishop android. Weyland-Yutani would’ve discovered a beacon leading to a pyramid on another planet with features reminiscent of the Aztec, Cambodian, and Egyptian, believing it to be from an alien race that taught these cultures 1000s of years ago. He would assemble a team to investigate, along with Colonial Marines for security hoping to find it before someone else does. They go in and find an old colony that was happened after everyone disappeared over night and find the pyramid. “Let’s make history.” They would go in, unaware that the Predators set them as a trap to lure humans to the pyramid. The humans would find the sacrificial chamber with primitive people, believing the “ancient aliens” brought them there as sacrifices. The Predators would arrive, the humans would find the guns in the sarcophagus, upon removing them, the pyramid would imprison them in the room and they’d lose contact with the ones in the sacrificial chamber, who got facehugged. The characters would think that Henriksen is hiding something from them, like he knows something he’s not telling them. They would be imprisoned for 24 hours, time lapsed of course, until the pyramid finally changes and they leave the room only to encounter the Aliens and the Predators. They find out that Weyland set them up, he knew about the Aliens and the Predators they whole time and was hoping to capture the Aliens and take the Predator technology back to Wey-Yu. You could probably keep everything else just changed in this manner. I know a lot of people didn’t like the human/Predator team up, but I liked it cause it was just like in the original comic book.
That’s how I would rewrite it, I think that would’ve made it a better movie. Feel free to disagree.
