Alien Covenant Discussion SPOILERS AHEAD

I saw Alien Covenant yesterday. It was great, I loved it a lot, Michael Fassbender was great as always, Katherine Waterson was a good lead, I knew her before she was famous when I saw her in the independent film Enter Nowhere with Scott Eastwood and Sara Paxton, Danny McBride was awesome too, did a really great job doing a drama instead of comedy. I can’t wait for the next one, though I feel Scott is going a little overkill making probably too many than we need to lead into Alien, not to mention that his Alien movies have been underperforming at the box office, so I hope he can lead into Alien before they run out of money. Not to mention, I’m disappointed that so far, it seems like Blomkamp’s Alien 3.5 won’t get off the ground. I was looking forward to that because it was gonna retcon Alien3Alien Resurrection and bring back my favorite characters and go forward instead of backwards. But I have so many things I wanna run by you guys.

SPOILERS AHEAD

First of all, I had heard that Scott had originally intended to make more on the Engineers, but after Prometheus met negative results because of lack of Alien, he decided to focus all on Alien. But, couldn’t he have done both? Focus on Alien while explaining more about the Engineers. For example, will we ever learn why the Engineers created us and then eventually tried to kill us?

I’m a little iffy about them killing off Shaw, I’m kinda wondering if I can like this movie and not look like a hypocrite because it killed off a character in the next movie just like Alien3, which I hate like poison because of that. On the subject, if David loved Shaw so much, why did he do that to her? Maybe there could be a prologue in the next scene where we actually see what happened right after David wiped out the Engineers.

We now know that David created the Xenomorphs, so we’re assuming that his creation will end up on that the Engineer/Derelict ship in Alien, so how do we get from Covenant to Alien? Did David only kill the Engineers on that one planet and there are more Engineer colonized worlds, maybe ones who will seek vengeance on David for attacking them and David will commandeer one of their ships again which will lead into Alien?

Overall I loved it, it wasn’t as frustrating as Prometheus and I feel Alien has returned. I just hope Scott can wrap this up before the money runs out, if there’s one thing I hate more is an unfinished story.

Alien Covenant Trailer

Watched the trailer for Alien Covenant last night. It was incredible and I can’t wait to see it. It’s great to see the Alien again and I am so excited. All I can say is “Welcome back Alien. It’s good to have you back. We’ve missed you so much.”

But there are so many questions. We know the crew of the Covenant find David on this new planet, but where’s Shaw? Did David betray her and kill her, or did he simply leave her for dead and she’ll pop up again later?

Will we see some Engineers?

We know we’ll see some new Xenos, like one popping out of a guy’s back, the Backburster. Maybe that guy who birthed the Backburster was the guy who had that spore fly in his ear.

We see an Egg and a Facehugger. Does David creates the Xenos like the rumors have said before the Covenant crew arrived, or were those Eggs already on the ship. Is that the ship that Shaw and David left LV-223 on?

We know Fassbender plays two androids, David and Walter, Walter is a basic robot, but he’s still a predecessor to the Ash androids, so he might still be a little “twitchy.”

And this one is a big one. A lot of people think that Katherine Waterson’s character, Daniels, is Ripley’s mother. Is that the case? I kinda hope not, seems like a real prequel cliche, and seems too convenient that the Ripley family is fated to run into these Aliens. Again, cliche.

How Prometheus (Really) Should Have Ended

I’ve said before, that I feel that the Prometheus sequel(s) will not lead into Alien because:

Ridley Scott seems adamant that he doesn’t wanna do Alien again, considering that they probably won’t end the movie with another Derelict crash, and because he referenced that the ship in Prometheus, the Juggernaut, and in Alien, the Derelict, were not the same ship but were “brothers, about the same age. Few hundred years, give or take” which is almost exactly the same thing that Shaw said when distinguishing how long the decapitated Engineer’s been dead. He seems to indicate that the Derelict crashed years before Prometheus.

Anywho, it seems Scott wants the series to go its own course without being bound to Alien, like say The Thing Prequel or the Star Wars prequels. This is how I think Prometheus should’ve ended and some of the changes I would’ve made to make Prometheus go its own course and tie up lose ends regarding Alien:

Not make them think Weyland was dead, just believe he’s back on Earth and probably dead since he was so old.

Have the planet actually be LV-426.

Reference that Fifield lost the map when they left the group. In the script, when they leave the group, he asks Milburne for the map, only for both to discover that neither had the map.

Have an Alien, or some different kind of Alien like the Deacon, come out of Shaw in the Med-Pod scene and have her destroy it.

At the end of the movie, here’s the kicker we go to the cargo hold of Juggernaut to see the Alien eggs, being a creation of the black liquid. The Engineer, who is actually THE Space Jockey, would rip off David’s head, kill Weyland, and attempt to use it to plot a course to Earth. Shaw would tell Janek to stop it and he accepts. This is what we’d do different. The Engineer is flying the ship, when an Alien births from his chest, the Ultramorph as they called it, the Engineer would die, but the ship is still active. David would contact Janek and tell him that he has a 2 minute window before the autopilot kicks in. The Prometheus will crash into the Juggernaut, and roll at Vickers and Shaw, it would crush Vickers and Shaw would survive. Shaw would lie on the ground crying after everything that happened. David would contact her telling her that he can pilot another ship. She would meet up with David’s head and she would tell him that she wants to go to the Engineer’s home planet, Paradise, to know why they created and tried to use the Alien eggs to try and kill us. When suddenly, the Ultramorph attacks Shaw where she kills it with Jackson’s shotgun (the guy who shot the Engineer after he awoke), where its body would leak acid melting a hole in the control room leaking into the cargo hold. The same hole that Kane would be lowered into. Shaw and David would take another ship and take off for Paradise. This is a combination of elements from the original script of Prometheus, Alien Engineers, and the final product so it could’ve been good.

Ties lose ends, and still let’s it go its own course. That’s just what I would do.

P.S.

Rest in peace Hans Rudolf Giger, the man who made the monster.

Alien3 Reboot

This is something I’ve been wanting to post and questioning whether or not to post it.

I’m a huge fan of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, mostly Aliens. I can’t stand Alien3, it ticks me off that after everything Ripley went through in Aliens was all a waste in the first five minutes 3. Resurrection wasn’t any better, at least it didn’t kill off great characters in the first five minutes making everything the heroes went through in the previous film all for nothing. Ever since 3, the series has been going down hill, the only film that was an improvement was Prometheus, but not by very much because of all it’s huge plot holes.

I feel the only way to reinvent the Aliens series is do what many movies have done before with one simple word, “retcon.” Simply make a straight sequel to Alien and Aliens and retcon 3 and 4 like they never happened. They could even bring back the original cast like Weaver, Biehn, maybe Henricksen, and they could bring a new actress to play Newt all grown up (since Carrie Henn is retired). I always thought it would’ve been great to do a whole Aliens story maybe franchise centered around Newt as a grown up.

Which has been done before, prior to the release of Alien3 Dark Horse wrote an Aliens comic book trilogy centered around Newt all grown up written by TV writer/producer Mark Verhieden. It was a good series, I enjoyed it. Unfortunately after the release of 3, Fox reprinted the books with different names, Newt became Billie, Hicks became Wilks, and in the Steve Perry adaptations Ripley became a droid. COP-OUT!!! I have the original comics before the reprint, they are prized possessions of mine.

Movies have done this before, both Prometheus and Predators ignored the Aliens vs. Predator movies like they never even happened. Superman Returns was a direct sequel to the original Superman 1 and 2 and retconed 3 and 4. Halloween: H20 was a direct sequel Halloween 1 and 2 and retconed 4-6, course 3 was a different kettle of fish. Just recently, Texas Chainsaw (3D) was a direct sequel to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and ignored 2 and 3. If these movies can do it, why not Aliens?

They could really bring a new actress to carry on the Aliens legacy with Newt and Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver could return as supporting characters.

Well, that’s my idea. I’m very passionate about this idea, I even wrote my own stories as a hobby, even made photoshop fan art of my stories. I really miss the Xenomorphs on screen and I feel they bring back these characters as if 3 and 4 never happen to usher in a new Aliens franchise for a new generation.

Prometheus Theory

SPOILERS

Regarding Prometheus: going into the movie I was expecting the movie to lead into Alien movie, especially since the trailer misled us showing a Space Jockey ship crashing, to our discovery it’s not the same ship from Alien. The problem with the movie is that it is confusing, mostly regarding the Alien series, I could go a life time without knowing why the Engineers created us and then tried to destroy us. What I wanna know is, what happened to THE Space Jockey of Alien, how did he get infected, how did he crash, where did he get the Xeno eggs, where was he taking them? How is the black substance related to the Xenos, since we saw them create Xeno-type creatures. Not Xenos, but Xeno-type creatures. Most people, including myself believe the Engineers created the Xenos, which does make sense. Maybe the black substance is what creates the Xenos or the substance was harvested from the Xenos themselves. My friend who collected ideas that, like Scott said before decades ago, that the Xenos were probably used as biological weapons. My friend theorized that, proceeding Prometheus, the Xenos became uncontrollable so the Engineers abandoned them and moved to working on the black substance. Ridley Scott says he wants to make 2 more Prometheus movies.

But the point I’m trying to make is, I don’t think the Prometheus will end with the Derelict crash on three reasons:

1. Because I doubt Ridley Scott would end another Prometheus movie with a Derelict crash.

2. Because Ridley Scott said he doesn’t want the audience to know the ending of his movies being a prequel and lead into the 1st movie, like say The Thing (Prequel) where the Thing-dog escapes the burning Norwegian camp and goes to Kurt Russell’s camp with the chopper chasing it.

3. Ridley Scott doesn’t wanna do another Alien movie, he said it himself, he’s pretty determined that he wants Prometheus to have nothing to do with the Aliens.

Basically my theory is, the Derelict crashed before Prometheus. Scott even hinted that the ship was on LV-426 at the time of Prometheus, he said that the two ships on LV-426 and LV-223 were about the same age, “2000 years, give or take.”

I suspect that if we do get our answers as to what happened to the Derelict and THE Space Jockey, will probably get it in a prologue like the beginning of Prometheus or even in a holographic recording. I can picture Shaw and David’s severed head in a room with an Elder Engineer(s) as a holographic record explains the history of the Engineers, the Xenomorphs, the humans, and why the Derelict crashed and why the Engineers created us then tried to destroy us.
